We're getting there. Posted 25 July 2006 by Ellen (Mellon) Weaver from Tristan Oaks (5448 views) It's been three months since the Mare had her surgery and we are finally making progress again with her walk, trot, and canter. I have finally learned how to properly lunge her so that she goes forward and uses herself. It also took my trainer holding onto my shirt so that I wouldn't be running around after the Mare so that I could learn to establish my circle and not have Mare establish the whole ring as her circle.
After we lunged her, I hopped on and it was like riding a new horse! She was wonderful. Even the canter which is usually one of her scariest gaits at the dressage barn was really nice.
I rode her yesterday and she was an angel. I established a forward trot from the get-go and had her doing transitions from the walk to trot and back again. I could really feel her using her hind end in those tranisitions. It was so neat! The canter was also perfect. Her usual problem of being downhill and charging was gone and in place, was an uphill, controlled, great canter! We even went around the whole ring with her keeping the nice canter in both directions. What an improvement she's made! |
